Foiled on a Friday

Today's page is a very random collection of images all sparked by the foil top off my cream cheese container this morning... the text of which reads "butter up your boss, not your bagel". Included here are pieces of junk mail envelopes, part of a Bubble Yum wrapper, and assorted magazine images.

Thrashing Around

For a variety of reasons, this was a bad day... and I think that came out loud and clear in these picture doodles of my crappy day...

Re-Think Pink

As I went through my pile of pink bits trying to see if anything struck me, I realized I had a bunch of pink and black things... so I was off and running. I had prepped a couple of pages with a background of pink and purple painted tissue paper laid down with acrylic medium. I really like the translucent effect this gives. With a sharpie and a scrap of graph paper I doodled a checkered piece to add some pop to this. The butterfly with pink and purple flowers was a last minute inspiration that I really like. This page is like a lot of my pages with text... I have a feeling there's a deeper meaning hidden in the text I choose, frankly, rather randomly. Maybe eventually I can merge these pages with my journaling and see where they lead me.

Think Pink

The Gluebooks Yahoo group has not only been challenging me to create a page a day... but also to do at least one pink page in honor of October being National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Being a pink freak... I have enough little pink bits for several pink pages... but here's the first one made out of a Christmas card and some magazine pages...

Rainy Days and Mondays...

Little Bits of Theater

Here are two collages I did from junk I picked up and stuffed in my pockets during the run of the show.

The first piece is just a section of camo netting from the set with an ad from a magazine that says "Great theater deserves a great setting."

The second collage is just a random collection of the junk that passed through my hands and should have been destined for the trash.

Patriotism Rocks

Here's a little collage that I did based on the tags off the bandanas that I gave the cast and crew of the latest show I worked on.

Grey Day Gradients

Friday was a dark and stormy day. While we were out to lunch with the boss for Bosses Day, I picked up my black placemat at the restaurant (it's actually the same background for both of these, they just didn't scan correctly) and I was off and running once I culled my scrap pile for images in black and white and grey... with a few silver bits. This series is a bit rawer than I usually like, but it does evoke the blustery day.

Playing Catch Up

Wednesday night I played around with some junk I had laying on my coffee table ... tissue paper, a gift bag, a napkin, and some clip art:

Thursday we had a hoagie fundraiser at work...since I had the order form, it seemed natural to use that to commemorate my yummy lunch:

Going Down the Rabbit Hole...

And thus begins another round of four shows in three days. Very grey, and rainy, and overcast here today. Took the boss to lunch for Bosses Day, which was at least a chance to get out of the office for a little while.

Hoping to get some time to post some more of my collages this weekend... but we'll have to see how tired I am.

For now, here's a little look at a luncheon a little like ours... (tee hee).

Hats off to a great weekend!!

Possibilities

Alrighty... got motivated enough to actually get this page scanned and uploaded. So here's the fruit (or vegetables) of today's effort. All basically from a flyer I picked up last night at the grocery store salad bar. I like that this is both vaugely inspirational, and yet sort of quirky.

The salad itself was yummy!

Sticky Fingers

The Yahoo Group "Gluebooks" is challenging all it's members to do one page a day for the month of October. I finally got a chance last night to catch up with my scanning and uploading and have put my pages at my site at Picture Trail. Hopefully soon I'll get organized enough to actually post my daily pages here on this blog.

If you're interested, my pages for this month are at: www.picturetrail.com/ethelbertina
in the October Collages album.

Enjoy!

Beginnings

This past summer I started really exploring my creative side. I've always been "arty" without ever thinking of myself as artistic. After all, I can't draw, so how could I be artistic? (Love that kindergarden teacher who chastised me for coloring outside the lines...) I had, summer before last, taken a short drawing class and found out that I might be able to get better at drawing if I worked very hard. But finding the time always proved to be difficult.

So when I discovered magazine collages, they were something I could do in the time I had and didn't involve as much internal criticism about my artistic abilities. I made a few stabs at collages while sitting around watching TV and they were OK... and then one night I did a collage around a small picture of some figs in a bowl. This is still one of the most complex collages I've done, and actually one of my favorites. It convinced me I was on to something, and that for once I'd actually pleased my inner critic. From then on it's been easier to allow myself the time and space to create.

It's still hard to let go of the inner critic long enough for the piece to speak to me, but when I can do that... such rewards!! I call this piece "Figgy Pudding."

Greeting and Felicitations

Welcome to anyone who finds their way here. I'm not exactly sure what this space will turn out to be... but I'm looking forward to seeing what develops.
